Largemouth Bass, Mountain White Fish, Rainbow TroutEnjoy 1 mile of fishing on the Crooked River just outside of Prineville, Oregon. This area is known for its scenic beauty and excellent trout fishing. This river is primarily known for its wild trout, especially rainbow trout. You may also find some brown trout, whitefish, bass, and pike minnow in certain areas of the river. For this property, the trout bite is typically first thing in the morning (5:30 AM - 7:30 AM). If you come later than this you may catch more bass, whitefish, and pike minnow. The best trout fishing traditionally is from April through June in the early morning and again in the fall. July and August the water is typically very low and warm. The river has several rocky shelves and deep pools, offering great opportunities for nymphing and dry fly fishing. Various nymph patterns, such as Pheasant Tails, Hare's Ears, and Zebra Midges, tend to be effective. Dry flies like Adams, Elk Hair Caddis, and Blue Winged Olives can work well during hatches. A lightweight fly rod in the 3 to 5 weight range is suitable for most situations on the Crooked River. Access to this property will be fairly easy for most anglers and you have access to both sides of the river. There are willows lining some of the North banks of the river, but it has access pockets all up and down this beat. This property is going to lend to better wade fishing, but you can find shore fishing as well. May, June, and July will be your best months to fish. Keep your eye out for wildlife as you enjoy the fishing and the scenery. Take note that this property can have rattlesnakes and mountain lions on it. Camping is allowed on the property, making it a great location for a long weekend or week-long trip. Please note, Under the Oregon Stream Access Law, the public may use rivers and streams for recreational purposes up to the ordinary high-water mark. Although unlikely, you could potentially see other anglers while on this property. RareWaters mission is to spread the power of the outdoors and the inspiration to conserve it. To that end, we try our best to find properties that are away from the crowds for a serene fishing experience. Although we typically get your booking approved within a few hours, please allow up to 1 business day for booking confirmations. Due to livestock and other concerns, dogs and other pets are NOT permitted on this property. Camping prices are per vehicle/per day. Camping is dispersed camping. Please practice "leave no trace" principles and pack out all trash. You will need to supply your own water. Propane fires allowed.
