Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Mountain White Fish, Rainbow TroutEscape to this secluded property along a half-mile stretch of the Shoshone River near Cody, Wyoming. John Colter originally named the river the Stinking Water when he encountered the strong odor of sulfur at a thermal area on the river near present-day Cody, Wyoming. This is a dam-fed river, right below Buffalo Bill Reservoir giving it a relatively consistent flow. When you descend to the river on this property, you’ll find yourself in a captivating setting. A deep, wide canyon carved by millions of years of erosion creates a breathtaking private landscape with a pristine river. Be prepared to catch rainbow after rainbow while fishing, ranging from 6-20 inches. Simple nymphs like worms and stoneflies were getting the job done. Something that stands out in the silty water, as you’d imagine the fish don’t see quite as well as a gin-clear stream. Sulfur Is Stinky! Upriver has a pungent smell to the air, but is beautiful and has great fishing. This property offers a lot of excitement but requires some hiking and maneuvering around rocks. It may not be suitable for individuals with limited mobility. Access involves a hike down a decent dirt road along rocky banks with low vegetation. Upstream, you’ll find sulfur deposits and natural springs. On the opposite bank, a spring pours in clear blue water. Downriver features more rapids and fishing pockets but is trickier to access. For geology enthusiasts, the canyon and its trail boast an abundance of minerals and fascinating rock formations. Wyoming is known for its diverse fossil finds, from dinosaurs to arrowheads. While the public occasionally rafts the river just below this property, the rapid section on the lower half can be challenging to navigate, making this property uniquely private. Important Warnings: Watch out for loose rocks in the deep canyon where you’ll be fishing; they can be slippery. If you choose to venture up or downriver, be cautious when climbing rocks or cliffs. Only attempt what you’re confident in, as it can be dangerous. Please note that all activities are at your own risk. Although we typically get your booking approved within a few hours, please allow up to 1 business day for booking confirmations. Due to livestock and other concerns, dogs are not allowed on this property.
