Camping, Stillwater, River, Partial Phone ServiceThis property is “request to book”. See below for more details. Located just 15 minutes from Buena Vista and Salida, Chalk Creek is a small freestone fishery. A consolidation of tributaries from the western drainages of Mt. Princeton (14,196’) and Mt. Antero (14,275), two of Colorado’s acclaimed 14ners. With easy access, most anglers will have no issues navigating the ¾ of a mile of this small freestone creek. Most of the riverbed is lined with 3-8” size river rocks. The property offers multiple access points to the creek, runs and small pools abound. Wet wading is a great way to approach this property.
Anglers only have access to the south side of the creek. Please stay off of the north bank.
Anglers must not forget they also can access a 1-acre spring feed pond, that stays mostly free of ice even in the depths of winter. The stories that surround this pond and the potential species are endless. Local farmers have historically used this pond as a catchall for clearing out farm ditches at the end of the season. Anglers will be able to approach the pond from nearly every direction. For a higher level of enjoyment, anglers should approach this fishery with 2-4wt rods ranging in length from 6’6” to 8’4”.
Due to livestock and other concerns, dogs and other pets are NOT permitted on this property.
While on property anglers will have the opportunity to target Brown, Brook, and Rainbow Trout. Anglers can expect fish to be looking to the surface most of the year. Many anglers when researching Chalk Creek will find the average size of fish to be in the smaller range of 6-10”. That being said, this property is unique in that its proximity to the Arkansas River invites larger fish to come up this freestone for a needed break. Anglers may be surprised by what they will find at the end of their line.
This property is managed in partnership with RareWaters. By booking this property, you agree to RareWaters's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
