Camping, Tent Camping, River, 4WDThis secluded stretch of the Little Snake River offers anglers 1 full mile of uninterrupted access through hay meadows and established grazing land in a peaceful cottonwood grove. Located near the Colorado-Wyoming border where the river famously crosses state lines 37 times this property is as scenic as it is serene. Access to the river is straightforward with mostly gradual banks, allowing anglers to reach their preferred riffles, bends, and pools without much difficulty. Wildlife is abundant here; it’s not uncommon to see deer, raptors, or even Sandhill Cranes, which have made the property a permanent roosting site.
Guests are reminded to drive only on established roads and park in designated areas. Do not drive through meadows or across fields under any circumstances. Redds (spawning beds) must be strictly avoided—fishing to spawning fish or disturbing redds is prohibited and will not be tolerated.
The Little Snake River is a 155-mile tributary of the Yampa River, known for its winding course and healthy, wild trout population. This particular section features a classic freestone layout with cutbanks, deep bends, glides, and gravel-bottom riffles offering a diverse mix of holding water and fishing conditions. Whether you're working a dry-dropper through a slow seam or swinging streamers along a cutbank, there’s ample opportunity to fish the way you prefer.
Summer is prime time here, and a hopper-dropper setup is often all you need to have a productive day. A 4-weight rod is sufficient in many areas, though anglers are encouraged to bring a 5- or 6-weight if they want to throw larger terrestrials or streamers. With minimal pressure and rich aquatic life, this stretch of the Little Snake provides an exceptional opportunity to fish a wild and remote river with big-river feel and small-stream intimacy.
